I got a call from Design Bureau to shoot Tony Chi in his Tribeca loft. I walked away from the shoot really inspired. Tony’s namesake company is super busy, with design projects ranging from Mandarin Orientals in Taipei, a Grand Hyatt in Bangkok, an Andaz in New York, InterContinentals in Geneva and Cairo, and collaborations with Audi. His studio was buzzing during the shoot, with designers working on plans and clients coming in and out. Yet Tony seemed delighted to have me there. He spent lots of time with me and my assistant, telling jokes, styling each shot, and sharing the stories behind some of the interesting details in his studio. Shooting Tony was a great reminder that no matter how busy you get, it’s important to have fun, and to take the time to check in on the people that you’re working with.
Here’s what appeared in the magazine, along with some outtakes from the shoot.
