Sometimes it’s good to be shooting just for the sake of pushing your boundaries and making something new. I like taking up random threads and following them, and even if something that I’m doing might not turn into a staple of the way I shoot, or even anything that I end up doing again, I think that staying inquisitive and trying new things is a key to creating great work and keeping the joy in photography.
I’ve shot a lot for my good friend Robin and her Dance company, Indelible
Recently, we decided that producing some new work was in order. But we didn’t know exactly what. So I headed on over to her loft with some lights and some cameras, and we just had at it. We shot all kinds of ridiculous stuff that will never see the light of day. But as we were fooling around shooting tethered to my laptop and tinkering around in photoshop, a seed was planted. I was silhouetting an image of Robin to drop into another picture, and when I cut it out, she said “hey, THAT looks kind of cool.” One thing led to another, and a few days later we brought some of her dancers in and produced this shoot.
